IQD is proud to announce a new partnership with Yeovil College to deliver a bespoke 10-week training course in electrical engineering fundamentals, tailored specifically for our non-technical employees. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to personal and professional development, ensuring that every colleague has the opportunity to grow their skills and contribute meaningfully to our business and customer success.
The training, delivered one day per week over a 10-week period, is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation in electrical engineering. Upon completion, attendees will receive a certification that validates their understanding of key topics including electronic components and circuits, RF basics, electrical principles and power, industry standards and applications, and of course, quartz crystals and oscillators, and frequency management.
This training is more than just a technical course—it’s a strategic investment in our people. By empowering employees with the knowledge to engage confidently in technical discussions alongside experienced engineers, we are fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. The course aims to demystify engineering concepts, enabling participants to contribute more effectively to cross-functional projects and technical problem-solving.
The course is hosted at Yeovil College and supported by the Department for Education through its Skills Bootcamp programme. Participants are guided through a structured curriculum by experienced instructors, with practical sessions and real-world applications that make the learning both engaging and relevant.
Technical Director, Nick Amey said, “We had the idea in 2024 that it would be great to do some electronics training to help bridge the gap between the technical team and the rest of the company. We worked with Yeovil college to develop a course specifically to our industry. Last Friday the course began and this week I have a group of people from the non-technical world who are already feeling electronics is fun!”
For individuals, the benefits are both immediate and long-term. Participants with no previous knowledge of electronics will gain a deeper understanding of how electronic systems function (in particular regarding frequency control) learn to interpret measurement units and schematics and become familiar with the principles that underpin modern RF electrical applications.
From a company perspective, the training not only enhances an individual’s confidence but also strengthens IQD’s internal capabilities. Employees who understand the basics of electrical engineering are better equipped to communicate with technical teams, identify potential issues early, and contribute to innovation. This leads to more efficient workflows, improved project outcomes, and a stronger alignment between departments.
Our customers benefit from this initiative through enhanced service delivery. With a workforce that is technically literate and empowered to engage in meaningful dialogue, we can respond more effectively to customer needs, provide clearer explanations of IQD’s products and services, and deliver solutions that are both robust and responsive.
At IQD, we believe that investing in our people is the key to long-term success. This partnership with Yeovil College is just one example of how we are creating opportunities for growth, development, and excellence across our organisation. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this training will have on our colleagues, our company, and our customers.
