Project 1: Holdover card to fit Expansion slot in White Rabbit Network Switch V4

This expansion card was developed by IQD to fit inside the White Rabbit Network Switch V4. It will enable the Switch to maintain holdover meeting the following criterion

  • Holdover : ±1ns in 5 mins
  • Holdover : ±30ns in 2hour
  • Holdover : ±1.5µs in 24 hours

Move to holdover in <±5µs upon ±2ns Phase error detection of White Rabbit Clock

Project 2: Generic Holdover card and Production Test System card to fit White Rabbit Network Switch V4

IQD developed the first expansion card to fit the White Rabbit Network Switch V4. As such there are many design decisions and restrictions which needed addressing for the first time.

Here we offer a cut down base card design intended as a first building block for any others attempting to design and build an expansion card to fit this switch

These document contain the following:

Expansion card base starting block:

  • EEPROM and comas setup
  • PCB size
  • Layout for guiderails, FMC connector and mounting points
  • Design for back plate
  • Power Supply lines and regulator
  • Balun LVDS to CMOS
  • Microprocessor and USB connection

Production Test System

  • Interface card to connect a development version of an expansion card to a PC and test equipment
  • FMC connectors
  • Power Supply lines and regulator
  • Balun LVDS to CMOS
  • Microprocessor and USB connection and EEPROM control

White Rabbit Expansion Board

The card interfaces with the switch via the expansion slot located on the rear of the WR Network switch v4. Power is taken from the switch, and no external interfaces are needed to run the card.
